The Maya Nation consists of Indigenous Tribes in Guatemala and Southern Mexico

The spiritual and mysterious Maya Indians have been inhabiting the jungles and high mountain ranges of Guatemala and Southern Mexico for centuries. Even to this day, most Maya in Guatemala live by the old ways, speaking their ancient languages, and practicing the simple yet ingenious way of life they have carved out for themselves. From high in the beautiful central mountain ranges of Guatemala, come these incredible handcrafted works of art. In order to showcase these amazing items, Tribal Mall has partnered with the Maya Artists Network--a Guatemalan art import organization dedicated to bringing the highest quality in Maya art to the United States while helping the indigenous population at the same time. Maya Indian Arts and Crafts: Handwoven Wool Rug

Maya@tribalmall.com

All items shown are guaranteed to be handcrafted pieces of real Maya art created by the true living descendants of the Maya. Our wood masks are hand carved and painted with simple tools and delicate skill. Our large 100% wool rugs and bedcovers cotton quilts are hand-woven on the traditional Maya backstrap loom--a time consuming process that yields a strong, tight, exquisite weave. And, of course, our authentic paintings are done on canvas with oils--something new to the Maya but mastered quickly. As with many native cultures, the art of the Maya is not just art.

These pieces are spiritual and cultural expressions of a people, their myths, and their lands. From the angelic Quetzal bird to the winding serpent, these magnificent offerings resound with meaning and beauty.
